PROPOSED GREEN BELT DEVELOPMENT IN ST MARY CRAY
Land Improvement Holdings have begun a publication exercise with local people, showcasing a housing development they would like to undertake in St Mary Cray.
If they achieve planning permission, they aim to build approximately 350 units on farming land south of Crockenhill Road.
To be clear, the site on which they wish to build is green belt land.
A development of this nature will fundamentally change the look and feel of the area. Furthermore, if such a development is allowed to proceed, it may lead to more and more development in the green belt.
Everyone is in agreement that we need more homes, but they must be built in the right places.
Unfortunately, the government wants to make it easier to build on green belt land. But our green belt is precious, it is what makes Orpington such a beautiful and sustainable place to live, and if we allow it to be concreted over, it will be gone forever.
No planning application has yet been submitted for this proposal, but one is expected in the near future, possibly as soon as Spring 2025.
