Gareth Bacon elected as the MP for Orpington

Gareth Bacon was elected as the new Member of Parliament for Orpington today with 63.4% of the vote, the highest Conservative vote share since 1955.

Commenting after the result, Gareth Bacon said: “It’s a huge honour to be elected as Orpington’s next Member of Parliament, and I look forward to standing up for the constituency in the House of Commons.

“It’s clear that the people of Orpington want an end to the dither and delay of the last three years and for Brexit to be delivered. That will be my first task as their new MP – to vote for Boris Johnson’s new Brexit deal and ensure that the UK leaves the EU on the 31 January.

“I will now begin work to protect Orpington’s green spaces from Sadiq Khan’s disastrous draft London Plan, fight to get more police on our streets, push for improvements to our public transport links, and press for more funding for our local public services.

“I want to thank the people of Orpington for trusting me with their vote. I will not let them down.”
