I want to hear your thoughts about the proposed regeneration of the Walnuts Shopping Centre.
If approved, the developers say the £500 million investment will have a transformative effect on Orpington, rejuvenate the High Street and assist our economic recovery. On the other hand, there are concerns about providing commensurate infrastructure - such as doctors and dentist surgeries - and keeping the buildings in line with local aesthetics.
That's why all voices must be heard about the future of our town centre. The developer, Areli Real Estate, has formally submitted its application to the London Borough of Bromley. Bromley Council's official consultation is open until Wednesday, 23 February.
As a Member of Parliament, I have no power to decide planning applications. This is a reserved matter for Bromley Council as the local authority, and I cannot direct them to either support or oppose the application. That is why I would encourage you to also write to the Council's Planning Department and make your views known.
However, I will be raising the results of this survey with both Areli and Bromley Council to ensure that your views are represented, as I have been doing with all constituents who have previously written to me on the matter.
